  UNDP Country Programme Document Supports T&T Government

On June 15, 2011 the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago gave encouraging statements on the Country Programme Document (CPD) put forward by the UNDP Trinidad and Tobago country office. This was at the Annual Session of the Executive Board of the UNDP, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

 

His Excellency Rodney Charles acknowledged work done by UNDP focus on poverty reduction, the incidence of HIV-AIDS, gender policy and decreasing levels of crime and violence. He went on to speak of some of the problems plaguing the country and the CPD keeping in line with goals of the Government’s objective for socio-economic change. The problems mentioned were the intra-regional illicit trade in drugs and small arms, climate change, natural disasters and locally felt negative effects of the global food and financial crises. In closing, he stated that the Trinidad and Tobago Government remains steadfast in their commitment to continue to partner with UNDP and other UN agencies in order to achieve developmental objectives.
