Rebecca Grynspan, Regional Director of Latin America and the Caribbean spoke to Governments and the media at the 5th Summit of the Americas on economic crises and sectors of society most vulnerable to them.

 

Ms. Grynspan highlighted the situation of school drop outs and its linkage with marginal employment and poverty. In addition to this, she spoke on the need for better social protection schemes regarding women, children and the youth especially during crises of poverty and inequity.

During such times she identified the 4 areas of vulnerability as:

  • Infant mortality

  • Maternal mortality

  • Malnutrition

  • Drop outs
