  Prime Minister meets with UNDP Associate Administrator in Brazil

Rebecca Grynspan, UNDP Associate Administrator and UN Under Secretary-General, met with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar at the World Economic Forum on Latin America in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The forum was held between April 27 and 29 with the theme "Laying the Foundation for a Latin American Decade". Their talks focused on:

  • Women Leaders as Agents of Change Programme

  • Constitutional reform

  • UNDP's research on Citizen Security in the Caribbean and the UN System

  • UNDP's activities in Trinidad and Tobago

During the forum the Prime Minister gave opening remarks on the session entitled "Five Regional Challenges, One Solution: Women - How can empowering girls and women radically impact five acute challenges facing Latin America"; and  participated in the Arena Session, "The Education Challenge: Bridging the Talent Gap" where the issues of technical training, the quality of education and promoting understanding among government, schools and businesses were addressed.

 

Ms. Grynspan also participated in an interactive session addressing the following issues:

 

  Macroeconomic imbalances
  Illegal economy
  Water-food-energy nexus
  Global governance failures
  Economic disparity
