  UNDP Deputy Regional Director concludes Caribbean consultation on HIV and the Law

UNDP Deputy Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Niky Fabiancic, brought closing remarks at the Caribbean consultation on HIV and the Law. The meeting was held at the Trinidad Hilton on Wednesday the 13th of April.

 

The regional consultation brought together representatives from government and civil society to determine a set of recommendations to be submitted to the Global Commission on HIV and the Law. The Global Commission on HIV and the Law will collect through similar regional consultations additional recommendations to be compiled in a report that will be launched at the end of 2011 with a set of recommendations and action items to be taken.

the regional consultation in Port of Spain dealt with improvements in legislation for Caribbean countries and action items to deal with stigma, discrimination and human rights issues for groups such as men who have sex with men, sex workers, transgender groups, and people infected with HIV/AIDS. The recommendations were summarized by Mr. Michael Kirby, Commissioner for the Global Commission on HIV and the Law and the meeting was closed by Mr. Niky Fabiancic. A report of the meeting will be following shortly.
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative, Edo Stork, brought remarks in the opening of the consultation on the same day.
