Global Environment Facility's Small Grants Programme (GEF/SGP)

The Global Environment Facility's Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP), which is part of UNDP's Community Outreach and Response (CORe) Initiative, aims to deliver global environmental benefits in the GEF Focal Areas:

  • Biodiversity conservation

  • Climate change mitigation

  • Protection of international waters

  • Prevention of land degradation (primarily desertification and deforestation)

  • Elimination of persistent organic pollutants through community-based approaches.

The GEF SGP was introduced in Trinidad and Tobago in 1995.

A National Steering Committee (NSC) develops the Country Programme Strategy (CPS) for the implementation of GEF/SGP and the Social Development SGP and approves projects for grant support.
