An analysis of the annual output of crude petroleum from 1960 to 2007 reveals that in 1960 Trinidad and Tobago produced 42,357,000 barrels. By 1978 this figure reached a high of 83,778,000.
Since this landmark year, crude oil production in the country has fallen on a consistent basis, reaching 43,807,000 in 2007 a mere 14,500,000 or 3.4% higher than it was in 1960, forty-seven years earlier. It is also interesting to note that the 2007 tally is 39,971,000 or 47.7% less than the year of peak production in 1978.
