An examination of selected non health related death rates reveal that during the period 1960 to 1980 the number of deaths due to homicides/assaults per 100,000 population moved from 4.52 in 1960 to a high of 8.62 in 1973 (for this period) and an all time low, to date, of 2.13 in 1980.
The period 1980 to 2005 presents a very different picture as deaths due to homicides/assaults have increased steadily since1980, reaching 30.90 in 2005.
